Guidelines for Using the Texas Register Viewer

The Texas Register Viewer allows you to search for and then view submissions included in issues of the Texas Register in a variety of ways. You may search for submissions by agency name, rule number, issue date, or type of document, or a combination of these criteria.

General Information
Be as specific as possible when entering your search criteria. If you are interested in results from a particular title, part, or chapter only, include that information in your search criteria. This will return results that are more specific to your needs and will speed up the search. The more complex the search, the longer it will take for the system to process your request.

Search Document Text
Use this search box to search the rule text only. You may use the % sign as a wildcard in this field.

Search Preamble Text
Use this search box to search the preamble text only. You may use the % sign as a wildcard in this field.

Document Type
Choose the "Rule" option to search emergency, proposed, withdrawn and adopted rule text. Choose the "Non-Rule" option to search other documents included in the Texas Register that are not rules, such as governor's appointments or attorney general opinions.

Agency Name
To search for a particular agency, use the Agency Name Search feature next to the agency name field or enter the name of the agency within the agency name field. You may use the % sign as a wildcard in this field. For example, to search for the Department of State Health Services, you could enter %Health% in the agency name field.

Title Number Field
Use the Title Number field to limit your search to a single title. Leave the field blank if you wish to include all titles in your search.

Chapter Number Field
Use the chapter number field to limit your search to a single chapter. Leave the field blank if you wish to include all chapters in your search.

Rule Number Field

Issue Date Query
This option allows you to search by issue date(s) of the Texas Register. The print version of the Texas Register is published every Friday. You may search for a single date or a range of dates. Leaving this field blank will return results for all issues of the Texas Register included in the system.

Statutory Authority Text
This option allows you to search the text of the rule's statutory authority.

Signature Block Text
Use this option to search the text in the signature block that follows each submission. The signature block text includes the certifying official's name and title, the effective date of the rule (for adopted and emergency rules), the earliest possible date of adoption (for proposed rules), the expiration date (for emergency rules), and agency contact information.

TRD ID (Texas Register Docket Number)
Use this option to search by the Texas Register docket number. The TRD is a unique number assigned to each submission by the Texas Register staff. You can search by a single TRD or by a range of TRD numbers. If you are searching for a single TRD, put the TRD number in each field. If you are searching for a range of TRD numbers, put the starting TRD number in the first field and the ending TRD number in the last field.
