How to Request a Universal Apostille

Walk-In Service/Bulk Request Drop-Off

Walk-In customers are limited to a maximum of ten (10) documents per person/company/transaction. Walk-In service requests are processed same day; please allow for long wait times (fifteen minutes to one plus hour(s)) if choosing to use our walk-in service. If you have more than ten (10) documents, please use our Bulk Request Drop-Box for a 24-48 hour turnaround.

To request an apostille in person, you must provide the Office of the Texas Secretary of State (Office) with:

  1. The original certified copy, or notarized document. Recordable documents must have been issued within the past five (5) years.

  2. Our 2102 Form - Request for a Universal Apostille (PDF)
    • You must include the name of the country where the document will be recorded on the request form.
    • ADOPTIONS: If you are requesting apostilles for the purpose of an adoption, please complete Form 2103 (PDF), and not our 2102 form.
  3. $15 per document you are requesting to be processed.

    ADOPTIONS: If you are requesting documents apostilled for an international adoption, please provide $10 per document; total fees may not exceed $100.00 for the adoption of each child.

    Fees may be paid by Check, Credit/Debit Card, or Cash.
    • Check - Checks must be drawn on a U.S. Bank and made payable to the Texas Secretary of State. Please note, the Office will not accept personal checks, or money orders that do not match the ID of the walk-in customer.
      Credit/Debit Card - The Office accepts American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa; all card charges are subject to a 2.7% convenience fee.
    • Cash - Cash must be the exact amount of the fees owed. The Office does not provide change.

Bulk Request Drop-Off Services

Please check with the guard at the front desk for the drop box location. Please complete the Bulk Request Drop-Box request form located on the blue drop box next the front door entrance.

Mail Service

If you are unable to come to our Office in person, please mail your documents to the Office. Mailed Authentication Requests can take up to twenty-five (25) business days to process your request from the day of receipt. Current processing time may exceed this timeframe due to high demand.

To request a universal Apostille through the mail, you must provide the following items to our Office:

    • Check or Money Order- Checks, or money orders must be drawn on a U.S. Bank and made payable to the Office of the Texas Secretary of State. Please note, the Office will not accept personal checks, or money orders that do not contain the payment amount, complete address of the requestor on the check, and/or a signature of the payee.
    • Funding an SOS Client Account - Please complete Form 2102 - Payment Form (PDF), and provide your Client Account number on the form. To fund a client account with a credit card, or debit card, please follow these instructions.
